JOHANNESBURG: Donovan Ferreira scored an 18-ball fifty in the run chase and powered Joburg Super Kings to a thumping six-wicket victory over Pretoria Capitals in the 13th match of the SA20 here on Saturday.

Opting to bat first, the Capitals could put on a modest 167/9 in the allotted 20 overs despite Kyle Verreynne’s unbeaten half-century.

The visitors had a shaky start to their innings as they lost Will Jacks (1) in the second over with only 12 runs on the board.

Coming out to bat at number three, Verreynne soon took the reigns of the Capitals’ innings and kept the scoreboard ticking singlehandedly.

The right-handed batter carried his bat all the way through but no valuable support from the other end, resulted in them registering a chaseable total.

He remained the top-scorer for Pretoria Capitals with 52-ball 72, featuring seven boundaries and a six.

Skipper Wayne Parnell, who scored 22 off 23, was the other significant contributor while six of the Capitals’ batters failed to amass the double figures.

Lizaad Williams and Romario Shepherd led the bowling charge for the Super Kings with three wickets each while Nandre Burger bagged two.

In reply, the Super Kings comfortably achieved the 168-run target for the loss of just four wickets and 12 balls to spare despite a horror start.

The home side had slipped to 16/2 in 3.3 overs after both their openers Reeza Hendricks (4) and Faf du Plessis (9) fell victim to Will Jacks.

Sibonelo Makhanya then joined forces with Leus du Plooy to script an astounding recovery for the Super Kings. They added 70 runs for the third wicket before the latter perished in the 11th over.

He remained unbeaten on 56 off just 20 deliveries, smashing seven boundaries and three sixes.

Jacks bagged two wickets for the Capitals while Adil Rasheed and James Neesham struck out a batter apiece.
